Wednesday Words: Connections
Today's word is from another social network: LinkedIn and that word is Connections. Much like Likes for Facebook, Followers for Twitter, or Circles for Google+, Connections is the term LinkedIn uses to define the people who you are, for lack of a better term, connected with.
In most cases, you are connected with people you actually know and have worked with in the past or are looking to connect with to potentially work with in the future.
LinkedIn is great for networking, but you should always be careful of adding connections you don't know - especially if they aren't connected to other people in the industry you are looking to move into.
Connections aren't like Friends or Followers. In many ways, Connections are used for networking and may have met you somewhere, through someone else, or work with you in some way. Connections can be beneficial for getting job recommendations, recommendations and endorsements for previous work done or connecting you with other influentials in the job market.
If you are looking for a job, especially in the social media field, I strongly encourage you to sign up with LinkedIn, post your resume, join groups and see what jobs are available.
Wednesday Words are a series of definitions released on Wednesday each week regarding a word found specific to Facebook's social media platform, or may be a generic word dealing with social media. These definitions are to help provide you with a better understanding of common and uncommon terms associated with Facebook and social media. Tuesday Tips: Brand Consistently Across Social Media
This is one of those tips that seem obvious, but many companies actually make this mistake. Your brand is important. You have a logo, you have a slogan. Use it consistently.
Don't have a different logo you use for each form of social media. Don't have a different avatar or different background. Do your best to keep everything as consistent as possible. Is it boring? Yes. But it also prevents something important from happening - brand confusion.
The following advice comes from Karen Leland of Sterling Marketing Group:
So, if you have multiple logos, figure out which one is going to be the one you're going to stick with, and stick with it and create your social media profiles around that.
Tuesday Tips are a series of tips released on Tuesday each week regarding a hint or tip to help you manage and market your Facebook presence better. You can find all the Tuesday Tips by clicking on the Tuesday Tips tag below.

"Presenting one consistent brand in logo, look and message is critical. To do this, use only one or two photos for all your social-media sites. Customize your Twitter and Facebook backgrounds using elements from your website. Keep the keywords and core descriptions of who you are and what you do relatively the same across all sites. Oh and make sure all information is up to date and current."Quote from: http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/227245?hootPostID=41ad7f211f636cbc41ff95993fb7948f#

Thursday Tutorial: How to Find the Activity Log
If you've used the post scheduler on Facebook to schedule future posts, you know that it tells you you can view and edit your pending posts in the Activity Log. You can, naturally, click on the Activity Log in that sentence to get to it, but you can also access the Activity Log in another way.
The Activity Log shows every action that has happened on the page by administrators - whether it be posts, comments or shares. The log is broken down by months. There is also a secondary section to the log that is broken down into a bunch of other sections where you can see when the About section was changed, videos added, spammers marked and more.
To access the Activity Log, go to the page you own that you want to view the log for. Then click on "Edit Page". That will open a drop down menu as seen below, where "Use Activity Log" is located.
Once you click on that, the following page will show up:
So if you need to find other things and you remember roughly the month they were posted in, you can track it down by clicking on the appropriate link then searching through the posts.
The Activity Log is very useful, especially if you aren't sure if you posted something in the past, or if you want to repost something you posted previously.
Check it out and see how it helps you.

Wednesday Words: Hashtags
Hashtags - a thing that used to be only for Twitter - has taken over social media and it looks like it's here to stay.
Hashtags, otherwise known to us older folks as the pound button (#) on phones, are a way for people to categorize certain things. It is often a single word or a group of words sans spaces grouped together. It is a form of metadata tag. And look something like this (taken from one of my Twitter posts):

You can use Hashtags in almost every form of social media now, including Facebook and Google+.
Hashtags are important because if anyone clicks on a hashtag in another person's posts, a list of posts with the hashtag included will show up and yours will be somewhere in there. This allows people who may not normally see your posts to see them and potentially favorite/like them and follow you.
Hashtags are easy to use. You can put them just about anywhere in a post - just make sure they are relevant to your post. Most posts from this blog that I post to my Twitter above have hashtags #socialmedia and then #facebook or #twitter or whatever one I'm talking about. I've earned a few favorites and shares from this.
I will admit that I am horrible about using hashtags. It's something I need to improve use on for Facebook and Google+. How do you remember to use hashtags in social media?
