Wednesday Words: Discover

Did you know there is an easy way to discover new people to follow in five different ways on Twitter? There's a Discover feature that has 5 functions to allow you to find new people to follow.

The first option is Tweets.  This option shows you the most popular Tweets on Twitter at the time you are looking. Some Tweets will be specific to your interests based on who you are following, retweeting, etc., while others will be globally trending tweets. You will have the option to follow the folks making those tweets, retweeting, etc.

The next option is the Activity tab. This shows the interactions of people you follow, including their latests retweets, replies and favorites, allowing you to do the same as well as follow the people they retweet.

The Who to Follow option provides you with suggestions of people similar to interests you have recently followed as well as accounts that are flagged as interesting that might be of interest to you.

The Find Friends option allows you to import contacts from your contact book and see if they are on Twitter. If they are, you can easily follow them.

Finally, the Popular Accounts option creates a list of some engaging and followed accounts on Twitter.  This list is created based off your interests.

If you're looking for new people to follow on Twitter, Discover is a great way to go about doing it!

Tuesday Tips: Create an Ad About Your Page

There are many ways to advertise with Facebook to get your company and your social media presence out there. The first way to do this is to simply advertise your page. There are many ways to do this and Facebook offers some pre-made ads, complete with wording and an image of your logo, etc. to help make this easier for you.

As always, you can customize the text and image.

It is advised for promoting your page, to promote it to friends of fans, hopefully getting those who are friends of fans see their friends like the page and they in turn like the page to see what the company is about.  After a few weeks of that, change your target beyond friends of fans. Try locations, interests, and broad categories and demographics to help get the word out there and potentially get more likes.

Keep in mind, this advertising is focused on promoting the page itself, not the posts on the page. We'll get to that in a future tip.

Tuesday Tips are a series of tips released on Tuesday each week regarding a hint or tip to help you manage and market your Facebook presence better.  You can find all the Tuesday Tips by clicking on the Tuesday Tips tag below.
