Wednesday Words: Editorial Calendar

Today's word is a term you may have heard a few times in previous blog posts here, but is useful for more than just social media and that word is editorial calendar.  An editorial calendar is a calendar used by anyone involved in blogging or maintaining social media accounts and is used to plan and control publication of content across different forms of media, including social media outlets.

There are many different ways to create an editorial planner.  If you are the only one using it, you can go with a day planner or a regular calendar.  If you want to share it, Google Calendar, Hootsuite or even GoogleDocs Spreadsheet works well for collaborative purposes.

This is especially useful for planning posts out in advanced for holidays and for when you are going o be gone, but still need things to post.

WordPress even has an editorial calendar plugin available.  Next week we'll talk more about using editorial calendars.

Tuesday Tips: Pin an Important, Relevant Post Once a Week

Today's tip is simple and applies to both Facebook and Twitter - I'm not positive if you can pin posts on Google+ or not, if you can, I'll mention it in a future post - Once a week pin an important and relevant post on your Twitter Account and Facebook page.

Pinning an interesting or relevant post on a weekly basis increases visibility and distribution of your post to your views. Translation: if you want a post to be seen more often and by more users, pin it to your page/Twitter account.

Pinning is very easy and in upcoming tutorials we'll walk you through how to pin an article to your Facebook page and how to pin a tweet to your Twitter wall.

Tuesday Tips are a series of tips released on Tuesday each week regarding a hint or tip to help you manage and market your Facebook presence better. You can find all the Tuesday Tips by clicking on the Tuesday Tips tag below.

Wednesday Words: Skype

Today's word is technically not a term used in social media so much, but is often used for conversation and messaging - especially with gaming or business and is often linked as a way to contact someone either within LinkedIn or Twitter and Facebook.  That word is Skype.

Skype is a free messaging program that is available for XBox, PC, Mac and almost all mobile devices which allows users to text, call and video chat each other.  Users can also purchase plans which allow them to receive phone calls via their personal Skype account.

Any two people with Skype accounts can contact each other for free using this program.  It's a great way to communicate with people overseas or without normal phone service.

Tuesday Tips: Remember to Like Your Own Page's Posts

Whether you are the only person posting to your Facebook brand page or if you have other people posting to it, there's an important thing you and the other posters should be doing:  Like your page's posts as your page and as yourself.

Rick's Daily Tips has an awesome article on why you need to be doing this.  If you don't believe me, maybe you'll believe him.

His article, found here, explains why this works and why it's important.  Basically, friends can see things you like if they have their friend news feed ticker turned on and may be interested in something you like and click on it to read more about it.   If you're wanting your friends to see and interact with your business - especially if it's a local business - then this is the way to do it.

Remember: Like your brand's post as yourself.  Be sure to change to posting as yourself before you click like.
