Thursday Tutorial: UPDATED: How to Find the Activity Log

More than a year ago, we posted a Tutorial on how to Find the Activity Log within Facebook. Just like a few other tutorials we had to update due to changes with Facebook, this one also has been updated.

The you can view and edit your pending posts, schedule posts, expire posts, view drafts and more from the "Publishing Tools" menu found at the top of your page, as seen below.

When you click on "Publishing Tools," this page will load.

If you have drafts, a post scheduled or posts expiring, you will see a number to the far right of those terms showing you how many posts you have waiting.

If you click on any of those terms and they are empty, it will simply load the appropriate page while telling you that there are no pending posts.

If you have a pending post, you'll see this:

If you click on the post, a screen will pop up like this:

You can edit the post, or chose other options from the drop down menu, including remove scheduled post, post now, etc.

So if you haven't used the new Publishing Tools option, you might want to check it out.

Thursday Tutorials: Exporting Facebook Insights

Looking at Facebook statistics can be a little overwhelming and sometimes a little distracting (especially if you have people messaging you a lot). If you want to look at your statistics off of Facebook, you can easily do this with the EXPORT option found within the Insights area of your Facebook page.

To do this, simply load the page you want Insights from and click on the Insights option. At the right hand side of the Insights area is the word "Export" Click on that.

When you click on Export, this box will pop up and grey out the screen behind it.  Note: if you click anywhere but in the box to get the data, the box will disappear. Just click on export again to start over.

Figure out what you want stats for and the range of dates and the file format then click Export Data. Note, if you want information for each file type, you will have to go into Export and select a different file type and export it to see all the stats.

Once you export you'll see this pop up. It's not up for long and vanishes really quick, restoring the page to Insights.

The file will automatically download. If you use Chrome, it will appear in your downloaded files bar at the bottom of your browser.

Thursday Tutorials: How to pin a post on Facebook

Last week we showed you how to pin a post on Twitter. Today, we will be showing you how to pin a post on a Facebook page - which is almost as easy as pinning a post on Twitter.

To start, go to your Facebook page that you want to pin a post to. Keep in mind, when pinning a post it should be something significant, like a current promotion or a popular tip or something like that that will change from time to time.

Scroll down to the post you want to pin. On the right hand side there is a carrot (or down arrow whatever you want to call it as it looks like this: v.  Click on it to get a drop down menu like this:

Click on Pin to Top. Once selected the page will reload and the post will have a little gold ribbon it above the drop down menu option, as seen below:

To unpin a post, just click on the drop down menu button again and click on Unpin from top.

Pretty easy!

Good luck!

Thursday Tutorial: How to Audit Your Facebook Page

In this week's Tuesday Tips, we advised readers to routinely audit their Facebook page and promised that we would show them how to do this in this week's Thursday Tutorial.  Well it's Thursday, so here's the tutorial!

To update/change your profile or cover image, see these tutorials:

There are several places you should verify data and settings at.  The first place is your About page.

The first is to visit your About tab on your page.  To do this, load the page you want to audit.

Then click on the About tab.  That will load a page similar to this:

As you can see, some areas are active links to click on to update.  Other areas, if you mouse over them, an edit button will appear on the right hand side.  If you click that, you can update the info for that area.

The next place to audit is your settings tab, which is located at the very top of your page.  Click on settings, then review the settings for the "General," "Page Roles," "Suggested Edits," and "Features" tabs.

When you are doing your audit, it is a good time to check your admins (which is the Page Roles tab) to make sure people who should have access do and those who should not, do not.

Audits shouldn't take long to do but are a good way to make sure your page is current and stays that way.

Thursday Tutorials: Changing Order of Tabs on Your Facebook Page

One of the most common questions I get for clients is "Can we change the order of tabs/apps on my Facebook page?"  The answer is "Yes.  Absolutely."

Much like last week's tutorial, Changing the Order of Sections on Your Page's Timeline, this week's tutorial shows it is pretty easy to make changes to your page yourself.

Click on the "More" Button in your Tabs area.  This should open up a drop down menu that looks similar to this:

Click on Manage Tabs.

This will open up a pop-up menu similar to last week's window, but with your tabs instead of your sidebar.

Drag and drop them into whatever order you want them to appear in, as seen below:

Click Save.  Just like last week, it will force the page to reload and you'll see the tabs reordered, just like below:

It's that easy.

Thursday Tutorial: Changing the Order of Sections on Your Page's Timeline

Have you ever wanted to change the layout of your page, but wasn't sure how to? Perhaps you weren't sure what you could change about your page. Today we'll talk about changing the order of the sections on the left column of your page - which is extremely simple to do.

To start, load the page you want to re-arrange the sections on. Mouse over the title of any of the sections. On the right hand side a pencil (editing) icon should appear. If you mouse over that it will say "Manage" as seen in the image below.

When you click on "Manage" the pop-up window will appear, as seen below. If you have Javascript or pop-ups turned off, you may wish to temporarily turn these on while editing the page.

From here, it is as simple as dragging the bars into whatever order you want to drag them. Note: You cannot move People or About. Those are locked in place by Facebook. but the other ones are moveable by you. Once you have them moved to where you want them, click save.

Once moved and saved, the popup will disappear and the page will automatically refresh. your changes should be visible in the refreshed window, like mine is below.

It's that easy. Check it out on your page and figure out where you want things to appear when your viewers use your page.

Enjoy!

Thursday Tutorials: Adding Apps to Your Facebook Page

You can add apps to your phone, authorize apps to use your Facebook account for various activities, add apps to your Facebook account, but did you know you can add apps to your Facebook page too? You sure can and the first two are the same ones you can add to your Facebook profile: Events and Notes.

Adding the apps is incredibly easy.  To add apps, go to the page you want.  At the top of the page, click settings.

That page will load into your generic settings page as seen below:
From there, click on the Apps tab in the left column, which will load this page.
From there, just click on the Add App buttons and it will install them.  You can then alter your settings from that menu as once installed, each app will have a settings button you can click on that will pop up a mini window to edit the settings.

If you find other apps on Facebook you want to add to your page, visit the apps official Facebook page, then click on the ... near the Liked Button.  From that menu, select "Add App to Page" then select the page you want to add it to.  Pretty easy.

Thursday Tutorials: How to Create a Milestone on Your Page

I've had this question asked, so I figured this would be the easiest way to answer it.  The question: "How do I create a milestone on my Facebook page?"

The answer is surprisingly simple, once you learn how to do it - the key to this is looking where you don't expect it to necessarily be.

When you go to create a post, you have several options at the top where you can chose to just write a status, upload a photo/video or create an offer, event,+, as seen below.

If you click on the Offer, Event,+ you will get an image like this:

Click on the Milestone option.  This pop-up will appear.

From there, you can create whatever milestone you want, whether it be the company 1-year or 5-year anniversary, hitting X-number of likes, etc.  Whatever you want to create as a milestone, you can create - within the limitations of the box.

You can also create milestones in the past by telling it when the milestone happened.  So if you missed the one year anniversary, you can date it to be the right date.

Pretty easy huh?

Thursday Tutorials: Now It's Easier to Select How You Like/Comment on Posts on Facebook

There was a recent change to many Facebook Pages.  If you don't have the change yet, you will soon.  This change is actually a good thing - it makes it easier for you to like and post as yourself instead of your page on posts on your page.

On every post now, you have a drop down to chose whether you like/comment as the page you're on, as yourself, or as one of your other pages.

Here's an example:

As you can see, on the right of the Like, Comment, Share line is a picture with an arrow.  When you click on the arrow you will get a list of pages/yourself to chose from.  Your personal profile is at the top of the list, the page you're on is automatically checked and other pages are below that and you may have to scroll to select them all.  The choice menu looks like this:

Simply select your profile if you want to like/comment/share as yourself before you post and you're set. You can also use this to easily comment as one of your pages if you chose to do so.

I like simplicity and this has definitely been simplified.
