Seeing as earlier this week we spoke about Social Media Monitoring, I figured we'd share a post today that talks a bit more about Social Media Monitoring. This infographic specifically targets Twitter and a bunch of statistics as to why monitoring social media is important.
For example, did you know an average brand's Twitter handle is mentioned 39 times a day?
There's many more facts and statistics in the infographic put together by twilert and posted at Digital Information World here: http://www.digitalinformationworld.com/2014/09/importance-of-twitter-monitoring-for-brands-infographic.html
After you check it out, leave a reply telling us which statistics and facts you thought were the most interesting and why.
Happy Saturday!

Wednesday Words: Social Media Monitoring
So today's word is a bit of a giggle because I didn't really think there was a term for it other than "keeping up with social media", but apparently there is a phrase for it and it's Social Media Monitoring.
Social Media Monitoring is the process of keeping an eye on (in other words monitoring) your brand's social media accounts and responding to any mentions related to your business as they occur on social media.
This falls in line with our other advice of being sure to respond to people who post on your Facebook wall or tweet you, etc. Not only do you want to keep up with those things, but you also want to see where people are talking about you and what they're saying. It's all part of being a brand with social media.
Wednesday Words are a series of definitions released on Wednesday each week regarding a word found specific to Facebook's social media platform, or may be a generic word dealing with social media. These definitions are to help provide you with a better understanding of common and uncommon terms associated with Facebook and social media. You can find all the Wednesday Words by clicking on the Wednesday Words tag below.

Back in the Saddle
April was a crazy month. A lot of things happened that were unexpected or didn't go according to plan, which meant time I had intended to write and schedule posts out weeks in advance didn't happen.
That being said, I apologize for the lack of regular updates during April. And seeing my travel schedule for June, I'm going to try to work ahead and get posts done.
Something that will help me - immensely - is if people who read offer comments or suggestions - especially when I have posts asking for questions of input. That will encourage me to try and get these done ahead of time so they'll be on schedule.
We'll ignore the fact other projects and writing keeps intervening.
Thanks in advance!

Thursday Tutorial: How to Find the Activity Log
If you've used the post scheduler on Facebook to schedule future posts, you know that it tells you you can view and edit your pending posts in the Activity Log. You can, naturally, click on the Activity Log in that sentence to get to it, but you can also access the Activity Log in another way.
The Activity Log shows every action that has happened on the page by administrators - whether it be posts, comments or shares. The log is broken down by months. There is also a secondary section to the log that is broken down into a bunch of other sections where you can see when the About section was changed, videos added, spammers marked and more.
To access the Activity Log, go to the page you own that you want to view the log for. Then click on "Edit Page". That will open a drop down menu as seen below, where "Use Activity Log" is located.
Once you click on that, the following page will show up:
So if you need to find other things and you remember roughly the month they were posted in, you can track it down by clicking on the appropriate link then searching through the posts.
The Activity Log is very useful, especially if you aren't sure if you posted something in the past, or if you want to repost something you posted previously.
Check it out and see how it helps you.

Tuesday Tips: Monitor Your Social Media
Many companies make the mistake of creating social media accounts on the major networks (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.) but then not doing more than a few minutes with it each week - thinking they've already done most of the work because they are "on social media."
If you are one of those people who think that, you couldn't be more wrong.
If you don't listen to your customers - and don't engage them - you aren't going to retain them and your social media presence is for nothing. This is especially true if you are a new company or an established company that's new to Facebook and looking to expand your business with social media.
As your social media following grows, you will end up spending more time, possibly ending up with a person who is your social media manager who will handle all things related to social media. But until you reach that point, you need to engage your customers. Ask open ended questions to spur conversations, create well versed replies that are NOT canned responses, respond to people who ask questions. Like their responses in topics.
Remember that social media retains everything you say or post. You should constantly re-evaluate how you respond to both positive and negative comments and try new approaches from time to time. Keep things fresh.
