Saturday Sharing: More on Instagram

In this past week's Wednesday Words, we discussed Instagram and the fact that even some brands are using Instagram to reach customers.

Since I didn't have a real useful post yesterday due to my birthday, I figured I'd still share a few things today about Instagram.  More and more brands and companies are turning to Instagram to reach their customers and I have a couple articles explaining why - and why you should consider it as well.

Friday Post Hiatus - It's My Birthday

I scheduled this post early - almost a month ago - because I knew I would be busy focusing on other things with it being my birthday.  I turn 34 today and while I will be either at work, or off for the day (I haven't decided which), I think I will be too busy to really focus on sharing other articles on social media today.  That means First Friday posts will be delayed a week, much like last month since First Friday was the Fourth of July.

So that being said, no other post than this today and hope you have a great weekend.

Wednesday Words: Instagram

Instagram is a popular application that allows users to share photos.  Users are able to apply filters to images before they share them.  Instagram will post to its own network as well as Facebook, Flicker, Twitter and Foursquare.

Instagram is definitely targeted towards mobile users and for social sharing and has more than 15 million users.  It is available for both iOS and Android devices.

Some brands are even using Instagram, including:

  • Benefit Cosmetics
  • LancĂ´me’s
  • Chobani
  • Ben and Jerry's
And more.


If your brand would be considered photo heavy - perhaps a restaurant where you want to share photos of your food, etc., or a boutique, you may look into adding Instagram to your social networking.

Tuesday Tips: Attend Social Media Classes, Seminars

This piece of advice, from the Constant Contact Facebook Page, is really invaluable.  I had never really considered taking a social media training course until I recently saw one on Groupon (I purchased it two weeks ago for $99 and is supposedly valued near $1,400).  But when I saw it available, I figured there was no harm in taking it.  There was bound to be much more I can learn in the next year and this course may just help me to learn it.

Keep in mind, all the advice I've given here is self-learned.  I've had no formal training, which I am thinking a number of my readers are on the same page with.  Therefore, I totally agree with Mr. Running.  Don't pass up a social media class.

Keep an eye out for them on Groupon and Living Social or at your local community college's continuing education class.  You might learn something useful from them.

The Monday Search: Job Listings Current as of 07/28/14

There are many jobs available out there for people knowledgeable about Social Media, but sometimes finding the job isn't easy.

Don't worry! Each week (when I have time) I will be featuring 3-5 jobs currently available as of Monday. Additional sites will be linked at the very bottom of the article and listed as sources. Other sites may be listed as well.

California Academy of Sciences is looking for a Social Media Specialist in San Francisco

Responsibilities:

  • Previous association or technical experience a plus

  • Oversee select public-facing Academy social media accounts (Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and any others that are adopted) on a daily basis (including evenings and weekends):
