Friday Facts: Social Media Stats

Earlier in the year I linked to a slideshow that had a bunch of useful statistics on Social Media.  Today, I found a neat infographic on Ashley Mcnamara's website, titled "Social Media Marketing - 8 Things to Ponder."

Check it out here:  http://www.ashleymcnamara.com/2013/12/13/social-media-marketing-8-things-to-ponder/

Have you seen articles you think others would like to see on our blog?  Or do you have your own social media blog and want us to share some of your posts?  If so, leave a comment with information and a link and you may find your posts featured on a Friday!

Thursday Tutorial: How to Find the Activity Log

If you've used the post scheduler on Facebook to schedule future posts, you know that it tells you you can view and edit your pending posts in the Activity Log.  You can, naturally, click on the Activity Log in that sentence to get to it, but you can also access the Activity Log in another way.

The Activity Log shows every action that has happened on the page by administrators - whether it be posts, comments or shares.  The log is broken down by months.  There is also a secondary section to the log that is broken down into a bunch of other sections where you can see when the About section was changed, videos added, spammers marked and more.

To access the Activity Log, go to the page you own that you want to view the log for.  Then click on "Edit Page".  That will open a drop down menu as seen below, where "Use Activity Log" is located.

Once you click on that, the following page will show up:

This page shows all the posts you've made and the type of post it is for each month.  On the left hand side are the categories I mentioned previously which can show you all the other information you might need to find.

So if you need to find other things and you remember roughly the month they were posted in, you can track it down by clicking on the appropriate link then searching through the posts.

The Activity Log is very useful, especially if you aren't sure if you posted something in the past, or if you want to repost something you posted previously.

Check it out and see how it helps you.

Wednesday Words: Hashtags

Hashtags - a thing that used to be only for Twitter - has taken over social media and it looks like it's here to stay.

Hashtags, otherwise known to us older folks as the pound button (#) on phones, are a way for people to categorize certain things.  It is often a single word or a group of words sans spaces grouped together. It is a form of metadata tag. And look something like this (taken from one of my Twitter posts):

You can use Hashtags in almost every form of social media now, including Facebook and Google+.

Hashtags are important because if anyone clicks on a hashtag in another person's posts, a list of posts with the hashtag included will show up and yours will be somewhere in there.  This allows people who may not normally see your posts to see them and potentially favorite/like them and follow you.

Hashtags are easy to use.  You can put them just about anywhere in a post - just make sure they are relevant to your post.  Most posts from this blog that I post to my Twitter above have hashtags #socialmedia and then #facebook or #twitter or whatever one I'm talking about.  I've earned a few favorites and shares from this.

I will admit that I am horrible about using hashtags.  It's something I need to improve use on for Facebook and Google+.  How do you remember to use hashtags in social media?

Wednesday Words are a series of definitions released on Wednesday each week regarding a word found specific to Facebook's social media platform, or may be a generic word dealing with social media.  These definitions are to help provide you with a better understanding of common and uncommon terms associated with Facebook and social media.   You can find all the Wednesday Words by clicking on the Wednesday Words tag below.

Tuesday Tips: Use Hashtags

#hashtags are everywhere now.  If you want your social media content to be seen by new users, be sure to include pertinent hashtags.

Hashtags become clickable links on Twitter, Facebook and Google+, which allow users to click on them and see a plethora of other posts using the same hashtag.  This allows users to see new posts by new folks they don't follow in addition to posts by people they do follow.  Basically it's subject grouping for social media.

A great example is Kickstarter.  A lot of folks will use @Kickstarter to tag them and #kickstarter when they're talking about their social funding project.  This allows everyone to see, at a glance, all the posts about Kickstarter while posting it to the wall of Kickstarter too, who may share it.

Tuesday Tips are a series of tips released on Tuesday each week regarding a hint or tip to help you manage and market your Facebook presence better.  You can find all the Tuesday Tips by clicking on the Tuesday Tips tag below.
