Thursday Tutorials: UPDATED: How to Schedule Posts via Facebook

Today's Thursday Tutorial is a guide showing how to Schedule Posts within Facebook. This has changed since the original tutorial posted in February 2014, found here. It's even easier to schedule posts than previously.

For this guide, I'm using one of my fanpages for UO Home Decor, to demonstrate scheduling a post.

Access the page you wish to schedule a post for.  At the top right corner of the status update box, insure that it's set to post as that page, as seen below.

Once verified, click in the status update area. This will generate the box where you can add text as well as the "Publish" button and the drop down button to the right of it. If you click on the down arrow you get a menu like this:

Note: if you click on "Schedule" at this point and you put the date in and click Save it will error out because there is no text in the status field. So don't try to schedule the post till you have text in the field.

Once you've posted your status for the future, click on Schedule. This window will pop up where you can schedule a date and time.

Fill out the time and date you want and hit schedule.

If you accidentally forget to change the date and hit schedule, the following error message will pop up.

Once you've successfully scheduled the post, the pop-up boxes will disappear and a message like this will appear beneath the status box.

And that's it.

Remember, scheduling posts ahead of time is a great way to keep your Facebook page current and active.

Wednesday Words: Trending Topic

Late last year we had a Tuesday Tip regarding paying attention to Trending Topics, but failed to actually define Trending Topics (though the article, found here, kind of makes it clear). So we're rectifying that today and will define trending topics.

Trending topics are topics on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc.,  being discussed more than any others. A great example of this would be when there were all the stories about Caitlyn Jenner or, more recently, the death of James Horner.

Trending topics are located to the left of the main Twitterfeed and to the right top of Facebook's news feed. Trending topics are updated in real time. If you click on any of the Trending topics in any of the social networks, you will be taken to a page containing all the posts on that subject. This feature makes it useful to those with Facebook and Twitter accounts as it can draw attention to your page without paying for advertising. Simply talk about the subject - if it applies to your brand and social media - and use the correct hashtags to be seen by others in the Trending Topics pages.

Wednesday Words are a series of definitions released on Wednesday each week regarding a word found specific to Facebook's social media platform, or may be a generic word dealing with social media. These definitions are to help provide you with a better understanding of common and uncommon terms associated with Facebook and social media. You can find all the Wednesday Words by clicking on the Wednesday Words tag below.

Tuesday Tips: Look at Previous Content to See What Did Well

It’s a good habit to, occasionally, take a look at your previous posts on social media to understand what worked and what didn’t work.

You can do this once a month or once every three to four months depending on your posting frequency. Look at the posts that had the most interaction and try to figure out why it had more interaction than other posts. Was it because of the tone of the post? Perhaps it’s from hashtags you used or posting on something that was a trending topic.

If you don’t want to do the research yourself, there are several programs out there that can analyze your previous posts which will tell you what type of posts have been successful for you in terms of social sharing.

Keep in mind, you want to analyze each social network separately as some things work well on one network but not on another. Track this and remember it for future posts.

Tuesday Tips are a series of tips released on Tuesday each week regarding a hint or tip to help you manage and market your Facebook presence better.  You can find all the Tuesday Tips by clicking on the Tuesday Tips tag below.

Happy Father's Day

I rarely post on Sundays, but since it's Father's Day I just wanted to say Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there, including my husband.

My dad is no longer with us - six years now - and days like this are still hard, but easier than they were before.

Enjoy spending time with your dad. You never know when you won't have him to spend time with him again.
